You Can Make a Difference!  Participate in the Community Luggage Drive!

What Is Happening

The leaves are beginning to change and the weather cools; perhaps you’re pulling out your luggage, buried deep in basements and closets, preparing for winter travel plans.

As we think of seasons changing, many in our communities are faced with larger life changes – the hardship of starting over.

This fall, we are participating in a luggage drive. During a recent leadership meeting, the CEO of United Way shared that when women leave shelters or housing assistance to start over on their own, a recurrent item that would help them start this new chapter of their lives was a simple one: a suitcase.

Items collected will be provided to United Way and distributed to women starting anew. We hope that these donations can offer the recipients a gesture of dignity and respect, sparking a new point of view, to encourage them on their way to safer, healthier, productive lifestyles for themselves and their children.

If you have any spare luggage, please consider donating to those faced with adversity. We are accepting any items that might assist families in transition, including duffle bags, garment bags, backpacks, and suitcases. Please bring your empty, clean, functional items to the Community Center on or before Thursday, Sept. 27, 2012.
