The 2020 Sully Christmas Celebration will be held Saturday, December 5 from 9:00 – 11:45 am with most activities outside around the Sully square.
• A revival of the home Christmas light display contest from years ago is in the works. Put up your display and have your lights on for judging December 5th thru December 12th. Sully Bucks will be awarded to first, second and third place winners.
• There will be a tree decorating contest for area businesses and organizations. Businesses and organizations that wish to participate need to provide a tree, tree stand, lights, decorations, and a power cord. Businesses and organizations are welcome to work together on a tree. Each participant would have a poster located next to their tree with their logo on it. The winner of the competition would receive bragging rights, the traveling trophy, and be mentioned in the next issue of the Hometown Press.
• Businesses hosting an open house/having open hours during the event will be listed on a Bingo card like last year to allow better direction for the public to locate the businesses. This Bingo card will be available at all businesses.
• Due to COVID, if businesses do not wish to host an open house but would still like to participate, there is the option for businesses to put their promotional items or information in a bag for individuals to pick up.
• Businesses should contact Cathryn Dunsbergen at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or 641-204-1920 to let her know whether or not you wish to participate or if you have questions.

The Sully United Fund mail campaign is underway to collect funds for various organizations. The Sully United Fund is operated by the local Sully Lions Club and is not part of the United Way of Jasper County or any other organization. Since it is controlled locally the funds collected are used to help the following organizations.

American Red Cross (Jasper County), American Cancer Society (Jasper County), Capstone, Children and Families of Iowa, Community Improvements, Diamond Trail Children's Daycare Center, Hospice of Grinnell, Newton or Pella, Inspirations Child Care and Preschool Center, Jasper County Dare Program, Salvation Army, Sully Ballpark Rejuvenation Project, Sully Library and Sully Lions Energy Fund (assistance to need families).

You may earmark your contribution for a specific organization; otherwise it will be divided equally to all listed organizations. Contributions should be returned by November 30 in the self-addressed, stamped envelope that was included in the mailing sent out to contributors.
