The first Sully Town Meeting was held Sept.27 with 40 attending to prioritize the answers from the Sully Questionnaire completed in April. Free pizza from Coffee Cup Café was served, Gelene Evans and her Lynnville-Sully Child Development Class provided child care, and the Sully Library provided story time.

               Members of Sully Betterment Committee that organized the town meeting are: Chaz Allen, Shane Ehreman, Chad Fikse, Rodney Jansen, Jennifer Kocour, Lejon Ladwig, Arie Scholten, Margaret Vander Weerdt, Teryl Ver Ploeg, Gordon Yarrington, and Lori Zylstra.

               Allen, who also is the current JEDCO (Jasper County Economic Development Corporation) Director, led the town meeting, welcoming everyone and explaining the process for the evening.

               The group was divided into three discussion groups: Quick kills, short-term (12-months) projects, and long-term (36-months) projects. The lists are now prioritized according to votes by those attending the town meeting.

Quick Kills will be:

1. Summer Sully “Night Out” Activities (May-Sept.) (Events such as vintage auto show, lighted bike ride, ice cream social, beanbag toss tournament, kids street chalk art, etc.)-23 votes;

2 Adult Recreation Leagues-17 votes;

3. Tie, Fly-ins at Sully airstrip and Winter Sully “Night Out” Activities (Oct.-Dec.) (Events such as Christmas Celebration, activities with Tour of Homes planned Dec. 1, 2012.)-15 votes each.

Short-Term (12 month) Projects:

1. Playground equipment in central square park-17 votes;

2. Establish non-profit foundation to accept gifts for projects-8 votes;

Long-Term (12-36 months) Projects:

1. City square upgrade-stage/band shell, restrooms-11 votes;

2. Ballpark area upgrade-tennis court, skate park, Frisbee golf, dog park, splash park-10 votes.

               The next Sully Town Meeting will be Thursday, Oct. 18, at 6 p.m. with cookies served and child care available. People interested in any of the prioritized projects will begin planning the projects.
