Facilities and Recreation

If you love recreation and the outdoors, the community of Sully offers a world of fun waiting to unfold for you! Whether you relish a game of pick-up basketball under the stars or love to relax on a bench while your little ones explore the mysteries of a wood playground structure, the park on the square in Sully will bring you hours of enjoyment. If basketball and playground equipment do not suit your tastes, perhaps a leisurely walk around the well-lit square or a picnic with friends under the shady tree foliage will bring a smile to your face.

Walking for exercise or simply to commune with loved ones is safe and pleasant in Sully with the smoothly paved, brightly illuminated streets of the residential area. Warm evenings find friends and family spending quality time together–biking, skating, playing, walking, and jogging. To add to the recreation, a few blocks southeast of the square is the town ballpark complete with two playing fields, a playground, picnic facilities, and concession stand. You may want to join other community members as they embrace the thrill of games, food, and fun times with friends throughout the summer.

If a more rigorous workout is on your to-do list; the Diamond Trail Fitness Center features state-of-the-art exercise and fitness equipment in a secure, beautiful facility with around the clock access for members. Located near Lynnville-Sully Community School, it is close to town, convenient, and affordable.

Community Center

Inside the community centerThe Community Center main room is available for rent by contacting the City Office or by completing our community center rental agreement. The room is 50’x60’ in size and will accommodate seating for approximately 225 people and includes a full-size kitchen with serving windows. Serving trays, coffee makers, table service, drink coolers, tables, chairs and a PA system are all available for use with the rental fee. A television equipped with video tape and DVD players is also available for use upon request.

Fitness

Workout equipmentCheck out the Diamond Trail Fitness Center for the best in exercise equipment and classes. The Center now boasts 24-hour access for members. For more information contact the Fitness Center at (641) 594-3555.

Library

Sully libraryThe Sully Library is located in the Community Center. It is your one-stop source for all of your informational needs. It has a large selection of books, magazines, the local newspaper, and electronic resources available to be checked out. Come visit any time when the library is open and see what is happening and the hours at the Sully Library by visiting their website.

Parks

Playground EquipmentThere are two public parks in Sully. The city park is located in the city square and has many large trees, Jasper County Freedom Rock, stage, and playground area. The ballpark is located on the east end of town and has two softball diamonds, concession stand, one enclosed and two open shelter houses, restroom facilities, and playground area. The larger enclosed shelter house may be reserved for a nominal fee by contacting the City Office.

Golf Club

Diamond Trail Golf Club, nine-hole, par 36 golf course, was established in 1997.  It is tucked in the rolling hills of Lynnville, which is 4 miles east of Sully.  Players of all skill levels have said it’s the “best kept secret in Iowa”!  There are concrete cart paths the entire length of the course, permitting play rain or shine.  The course’s irrigation system enables the course’s tees, fairways, and greens to be maintained in top playing condition.
