2012_xs_hs_teamThe 2012 Lynnville-Sully cross-country team's season had many highlights, topped off by the second trip to state in three years for the girls team. The first highlight of the season occurred on Sept. 10, when the Hawk girls tied for second at the Ballard-Huxley Invitational. A few days later, the Hawks hosted their first home cross-country meet since 1999 at the Diamond Trail Golf Course, with the girls placing third and the boys placing fifth. Team members continued to chop seconds and even minutes off their times as the season progressed. Senior Dave Trettin obtained a season-long goal of placing first when he ran at Montezuma on Oct. 4. At the SICL Conference meet at English Valleys, three L-S runners -- sophomore Cori Rice and juniors Tara Vos and Karli Roozeboom -- earned all-conference honors by placing in the top 10, with Rice claiming her first individual meet victory. This was followed up by the state-qualifying meet in Ottumwa, where the girls finished third as a team and earned a trip to the Class 1A State Meet. Vos led the Hawks at the state-qualifying meet and finished ninth in 16:00, giving her the honor of being an individual state qualifier as well. The season came to a close at the state meet, where Vos placed 37th in 16:03 and led the L-S girls to a 10th place team finish.
