Garden Thyme Club
The Garden Thyme Club was organized in August 1998 by a group of ladies with a common interest. This club meets monthly and is made up of local persons who enjoy flowers, gardening, and the camaraderie of friends. The club has held various fundraisers over the years, such as garden tours, a garden gate auction, and a “picnic in the park” to support various community projects including the purchase of banners for the street light poles around the town square. However, the primary focus of the Garden Thyme Club is the ongoing care and maintenance of the historic Deep Rock Station and Gardens located on the northeast corner of the town square. Sully Development Inc.
Sully Development, Inc is a non-profit corporation organized by several community organizations and individuals in the community of Sully. The purpose of Sully Development is to improve the quality of life through community betterment. Sully Development, Inc. was formed in April 1969 and was active in rebuilding the barbershop, restaurant, and insurance office after they were destroyed by fire in 1969. The insurance office and barbershop were later acquired by the restaurant to expand its seating capacity.
The primary function and goal of Sully Development is to attract and keep business and industry in the community. Sully Development works very closely with the Sully City Council on projects that will increase the city’s taxable valuation, expand the number of jobs, and help increase the student enrollments of Lynnville-Sully Community School and Sully Christian School. The fee for a Sully Development share is $100. There are currently 87 shareholders, who own 174 shares.
Sully Lions Club
Sully Lions Club was chartered on Sept. 15, 1953. Membership in Sully Lions Club is by invitation. Sully Lions Club meets once a month and elects officers annually. Through membership, Lions not only help people in need, but also have opportunities to develop personal friendships and gain valuable leadership skills. Member requirements include the payment of dues, attendance at club meetings when possible, and working on service projects and fundraising projects. Service Projects of Sully Lions Club include: Sponsor the local blood drive, purchase eyeglasses for needy families, offer scholarships to high school seniors, prom night support, grants to city improvement projects, grants to local libraries, conduct vision screening of preschool children, aid students in educational trips, conduct the United Fund Drive, support Leader Dogs for the Blind Program, support the Iowa Lions Eye Bank, support Cochlear Implant Center, support World-Wide Disaster Relief, plus much more. Their fundraising projects are Pella Tulip Time concession stand, Sully Fourth of July Celebration meal, and golf tournaments.
