Sully is home to two top-notch schools where students receive the educational nurture and extra-curricular opportunities to excel in academics and in life. The same pride demonstrated in the quality of work found in the local businesses is evident in the level of education provided for students at the community schools. The Lynnville-Sully Community School District offers excellence in public education for students in kindergarten through the twelfth grade, and Sully Christian School provides high quality, private Christian education for children in kindergarten through eighth grade. Lynnville-Sully is located on the northeast side of town across from the Christian Reformed Church while Sully Christian School sits in the southeast corner of town.
Preschools
Sully is proudly served by two outstanding preschools, Inspirations Child Care and Preschool Center and The Diamond Trail Children’s Center.
Inspirations Preschool
Inspirations Child Care and Preschool Center opened in 2007 to provide a high quality, fully licensed, Christian facility for children from six weeks to ten years of age. Inspirations boasts a beautiful, clean facility on the east side of town at 1005 2nd Street. Inspirations is a self-contained, not-for-profit organization, which is run by a board of directors. Inspirations offers educational activities throughout the year for all attending children; caring, trained staff; thematic units during the school year and summer sessions; regular field trips designed for specific age groups; and flexible scheduling from 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday to meet each family’s unique lifestyle needs. The center’s mission states that Inspirations is a place, “where we are inspired to help children, parents, and a community to grow.” Contact 641-594-3355 for more information about their passion for serving children or to arrange a tour of Inspirations.
Diamond Trail Preschool
Diamond Trail Children’s Center established in 2004 offers a spacious, fully licensed child care and preschool facility for infants from six weeks of age to school-aged children. Located on the northeast side in the town of Lynnville, the Diamond Trail Children’s Center offers a large, nicely equipped playground complete with a larger-than-life, multi-colored mural for outside exploration and play. The Diamond Trail Children’s Center provides reliable child care with scheduling that is flexible, Monday through Friday, from 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The nurturing staff helps the children develop age-appropriate skills through weekly theme activities; during the school year the preschool (three to four year olds) and the pre-kindergarten (four to five year olds) utilize the research-based curriculum. Lynnville-Sully
The Lynnville-Sully Community School, located at the northeast edge of Sully, serves students from southeast Jasper and southwest Poweshiek counties. Lynnville-Sully students come from Lynnville, Searsboro, Killduff, and Galesburg in addition to the Sully area.
A professional staff of about 50 teachers with a supporting staff of 25 serve a student population of 530. Because of the commitment to excellence, Lynnville-Sully students have received numerous honors and awards in both scholastics and extracurricular activities. The solid educational framework coupled with family and community support are evidenced clearly in Lynnville-Sully’s high ranking evaluations as conducted by the Iowa Department of Education. Furthermore, class sizes are small enough to provide students with individualized support and attention yet large enough to offer students multiple opportunities for personal growth and development. High school students have a variety of core and elective courses available to prepare them for university or vocational pursuits.
Although L-S is a small town school, many resources have been devoted to cultivating technology opportunities and resources for both students and staff. For additional information, please visit the L-S School Website.
